Hand-drawn by the artist Timi Hayek, this print commemorates the beautiful nature, landscape, and mythology of the Adonis River and the Afqa Waterfall. The story of Adonis and Astarte (Aphrodite) originates in ancient Phoenician civilization. Adonis’ death and resurrection represent the perishing of nature every winter and its rebirth in spring. According to legend, Adonis is killed by a boar while on a hunting trip in Afqa, Lebanon. Dying in Astarte’s arms, his blood and her tears sprout red anemone flowers all over the valley.
A short description of Adonis & Astarte is written on the tag of the scarf, presented in a beautiful white Timi Hayek box.
