Born in New York of Lebanese parents, Colette has carried on the entrepreneurial spirit of many generations in her family. Growing up with Soho as her backyard, she was exposed to the emerging art and design world. A child of fashion, Malouf has been nurtured within the ambience of classic couture surrounded by the jeweled caftans and luxury lounge wear of her family’s dress house Perfect Negligee. These childhood impressions she instills into her designs that blend downtown chic with high fashion, establishing an aesthetic that is a unique melding of artistic elegance and intricate craftsmanship.
In 1987, just out of college, she invented a unique hair accessory [The Malouf Pouf] that catapulted her into business and put her on the international fashion map. Among the founding designers of SoHo, she has remained faithful to the original locale where she continues her special craft, and preserves her lifelong commitment to working with local artisans.
Fundamentally re-defining the role of accessorising the hair in women’s styling throughout her career, today Malouf has become an undeniable industry leader. She has also translated the spirit of her distinctively elegant hair collections into a line of costume jewellery. With a strong presence in Japan since 1995 and China since 2007, she is coveted by many Asian influencers. Alongside her stand alone stores all over Asia, she has been featured throughout many of the finest stores around the world such as, Le Bon Marche in Paris, Tsum in Moscow and Isetan in Tokyo and remained a top brand at Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendal in NYC for 33 years.
